Last month we looked at how your bedside manner with your staff impacts the patient experience. This month we’ll look at the delta that exists between your practice results and medical skills.
By all appearances, you run a successful medical practice but your financial results may tell a different story.
You’ve probably made adjustments over the years from how you manage billing, to how your staff is organized and initially these changes may have had a positive impact on your results.
After a period of time, the positive impact dissipated and your results stagnated. You may have even become frustrated and decided to focus solely on your skills as a surgeon.
There are probably many reasons why your inferior practice results do not align with your exceptional medical skills and most of them do not connect to your skills as a surgeon, but your skills as a leader. A Forbes study shows that strong leaders have as much as a 50% improvement in net income over their peers with poor leadership skills.
Developing and motivating a staff requires strong leadership skills. Leaders inspire their staff through collaborative communication, shared goals, on-going learning, and accountability. To operate a successful practice requires an understanding that all components of your practice are connected and that your staff is the central component.
Your medical skills are outstanding because you have been intentional on developing them for many years. If you’re ready to align your practice results with your medical skills, act with intention as a leader and if you’d like support, please contact me at smays@impactpracticeconsultants.com.
